Other sources such as original registration details or Lloyds Register (for vessels over 100grt) must be used to confirm the actual identity of the builder.
However, between 1855 and 1870 the Customs & Excise staff who were responsible for formally maintaining the various Tyneside registries, also didn't record the builder's name either just the town.
So between 1855 and 1870 the builder names for vessels under 100grt are very difficult, if not impossible, to discover.
